The ARM processor is the most popular processor in the world, with over 1 billion produced annually. ARM based systems also draw very little power, with most using less then 10 watts. The main problem with ARM based systems is the lack of software support for those wishing to take advantage of these low cost computers, our hope is to change that.
We have created a Koji Build System for ARM based computers. Koji is the software used by the Fedora Project to test applications and ensure they work on different architectures before being made available to end users. In order to accomplish this we have built a small scale server farm of ARM based machines. These machines report to a central server and request "jobs" , in our case software packages that will be tested with the results being reported back to the maintainer of that software. If the package will not work on ARM, the maintainer will be notified automatically and has the ability to find out why using the web interface. Once the needed changes are made, they may submit the packages again for testing until the software works on ARM as well as the primary architectures, x86 and x86_64. This allows developers to use ARM based machines without having to relearn another operating system, and to take advantage of the over 15,000 packages maintained by the Fedora Project.

Documentation. It tends to slip between the cracks of many FOSS projects. It's not because documentation isn't seen as being important. Many projects just don't have the time or the extra hands needed to bang out those words. That's where FLOSS Manuals comes to the rescue.

Started by Adam Hyde, FLOSS Manuals aims to create quality free documentation for free software. And FLOSS Manuals does it using Open Source principles.

In this presentation, Scott Nesbitt will discuss:

* The origins and aims of FLOSS Manuals
* How the project works
* The types of people who contribute to FLOSS Manuals
* What a book sprint is and how one works
* The good, bad, and ugly of the FLOSS Manuals book sprint that took place at Toronto Open Source Week 2010

There are many different kinds of content management systems out there, and from the outside, they might look similar, but under the hood, their architectures are often quite different.

What effect does this difference have on their communities? This presentation will argue that the effect is quite large.

We will examine the architecture of three different CMSs: Drupal, ImpressCMS/XOOPS, and TikiWiki. They represent three very different architectural approaches, from highly modular (Drupal) to monolithic (TikiWiki). Arguably, the nature of the communities around each CMS can be attributed largely to their architecture, and the kind of participation it encourages.

This presentation will include a detailed technical examination of how the CMSs function, some knowledge of PHP will be an asset but not required. The balance of the discussion will be around the communities, and will not require technical knowledge.

It's been said that Microsoft did not always "play well" with the Open Source community. However, throughout the years, Microsoft has been making interoperability and open source a focus area in an attempt to bridge that divide. To date, Microsoft has made significant strides in building better relationships with the open source community. These milestones include software tooling and platforms to help the open source community build great software on the Microsoft platform, but it's not limited to just that. This presentation will outline not only some of the tools that allow Open Source developers build great software, but also how Microsoft has reached out to the Open Source community and how they continue to do so.

Open source is a lot of the time about the code. But what about the configurations? In some cases, configuring a platform can take significant time and depending on the configuration, the resulting application can be very different and address varied uses. The power users/developers of TikiWiki CMS/Groupware had exactly this problem of configuration being too tedious and full of reinventing the wheel each time. They then figured out a way to share configurations as easy-to-learn YAML inside a wiki so that other power users/developers can make use, enhance and combine these modular application configurations, leading to new and innovative applications that are easily deployed through an automated system. The same approach should be possible for configuration sharing for many different platforms, not just TikiWiki.

I will present the open source project openPETRA (www.openpetra.org), which is in ongoing development and released under the GPLv3 license.

The goal of openPETRA is to provide an easy-to-use software system for the administration of non-profit organisations. It is an integrated solution for contact management, personnel, accounting, donor services, conference organisation and more.
The software will support organisations of various sizes and is multi-user, multi-site, multi-currency and multi-language enabled; therefore it will be usable in many contexts and across the globe. It will specifically support international, distributed organisations with offices in many countries.
The vision of openPETRA is to be an established administration software solution for non-profit organisations, offered without a licence fee.

Background:
openPETRA is an initiative of OM (www.om.org), a Christian missions organisation. It is a new package based on PETRA, an established product in OM for many years. PETRA is an in-house developed, bespoke product. OM has a need to replace it because it is built on a quickly ageing, proprietary technology platform and decided to do a complete re-write based on current technologies and on non-proprietary software. OM also decided to open it up and generalise the software so it can be useful for many non-profit organisations. So openPETRA was launched in March 2009 - an open source project, which is something completely new for OM.

Because we are still learning different aspects of developing open source software, we are interested in getting to know people who have experience in open source projects. We are actively seeking to engage with contributors - organisations and individuals - to build a community of developers, supporters and users, with the goal of making this project a success for many non-profit organisations.

We will demonstrate and present the system administration and performance advantages that can be delivered by the GridCentric Copper virtualization platform.

This will include demonstrations of autoconfigured virtual clusters implementing a wide variety of distributed applications from grid queueing to distributed databases to load-balanced webservers.

Demonstration will also include dynamic, instant resizing of virtual clusters by live-cloning new auto-configured virtual machines in seconds, enabling distributed applications to dynamically scale from one virtual machine to many in a few seconds.
